About the Health Systems Advocacy Partnership (HSAP) Project:
The Health Systems Advocacy Partnership (HSAP) project funded by the Netherlands Ministry for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation is implemented by African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformation (ACHEST) in partnership with Amref Health Africa, Health Action International (HAI) and Wemos with a goal to enable communities realize their rights to the highest attainable sexual and reproductive health services.
The project aim is to contribute to achieving Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) by building capacity and creating space for a strong civil society to engage effectively with governments, the private sector and other stakeholders by holding them accountable for health systems to deliver equitable, accessible and high-quality SRHR services and commodities.
The project focuses on strengthening four of the six health systems building blocks as defined by the World Health Organization; Human Resources for Health, Essential Medicines and Commodities, Leadership/governance and health financing.
The HSAP project is implemented in five African countries; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia and in four geographical contexts that include; the African region, the European Union, Netherlands and the Global context.
ACHESTs’ added value:
Human Resources for Health in Africa has consistently had a low health worker to population ratio which is below WHO recommendations for respective health cadres, yet Human Resources for Health are essential for service delivery. The WHO states that Health services are only as effective as the persons responsible for delivering them are.
ACHEST therefore believes that for quality Sexual SRHR services and commodities to be attained, a multi-pronged approach is required; Good leadership and Governance, A motivated and supported Health Workforce and Equitable financing health sector.
ACHEST therefore leads the partnership in the human resources for health, leadership and governance components of the project given its wealth of experience and expertise in these areas.
