MEPI is establishing and strengthening partnerships between African and United States institutions in order to transfer skills, build capacity and collaborate in research. There is growing collaboration among sub Saharan universities catalyzed by MEPI with an extensive network of communities of practice. MEPI allows institutes to share and contribute rather than compete.
The highlights included improvements in the approach to medical education: improved training curricula, enhanced community-based training sites, investments in novel educational models and technologies. There are deliberate efforts at improving faculty recruitment, training and retention.
