MEPI holds third annual symposium.

 The third annual Medical Education Partnership Initiative themed “Sharing innovations and Enhancing Sustainability” was held in Kampala – Uganda from 6 - 8 August, 2013 attracting representatives fromUS and African government agencies OGAC, NIH, HRSA, USAID, CDC,African Universities Association, the 13 MEPI schools and their consortium partners, and other development agencies including the World Bank and the African Development Bank, staff from ACHEST and GW coordinating centers. The symposium featured plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and workshops.

The Plenary sessions as well as the breakouts focused on actual case studies and experiences by the schools and the different partners on innovations that have worked for them and how they were implemented as well as measures in place to ensure sustainability. There were also discussions on Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Transformative Learning, Building consortia for sustainability, research training and innovations and education systems innovations.

 The next MEPI symposium will be held in Maputo, Mozambique in August, 2014.
